Elsie has been the permanent Director of BOST since our 1973 production of 'Oliver!' Born in Liverpool, she was trained at the Elliot-Clarke College, and is a Licentiate of the Guildhall. She was for many years head of Theatre Studies at the College, and was a lecturer on the Edge Hill Theatre and Media course.

Elsie is Merseyside's most experienced Director of musicals, with more than fifty to her credit - many at the Liverpool Empire. She has directed professional pantomimes at the Empire, Neptune, Floral Pavilion and the Theatre Royal, St. Helens - starring such artists as Les Dawson, Windsor Davis, Melvin Hayes and Norman Vaughan. Additionally, she has directed a large number of charity shows at the Empire, Playhouse and Philharmonic Hall - including the immensely popular Michelle Children's Shows.

As an actress, Elsie has appeared many times on television, being best known as Mrs. Tardebigge in the original Crossroads. She also appeared in both series of The Famous Five (in which she played the housekeeper), Ghosthunters, Animal Ark, Hearts and Minds, Bread and Boys from the Blackstuff. More recently, she played a leading role in all three series of Harry and the Wrinklies. This year she again appeared as Johnny Vegas's mother in the ITV comedy series, Benidorm, and is looking forward to the third series being filmed in the autumn, for transmission in 2009. She has also recently recorded voices for a talking book of the new volume in Brian Jaques, 'Redwall' series.

On film she has played Julie Walters' sister-in-law in Intimate Relations, and the grandmother of Jason Isaacs and Nick Moran in Brotherly Love.
